Austrian artist Stefan Koidl specializes in illustrations that evoke anxiety, horror, and fear.
Stefan loves to play with human fears and imagination, which is why some of his drawings seem ordinary and even pastoral at first glance. And then you start to notice strange things.

“I have loved drawing since childhood. Unfortunately, over time, I lost control and became addicted to video games. But 4 years ago, when I said to myself, "Why not try painting again?" I have always dreamed of being able to draw as well as real artists. So I started learning digital art and started painting every day.”

“I have two jobs. My first job was carving Krampus masks out of wood - it's a really big tradition here in Austria. And my second job is to draw these scary characters. It's both a job and a hobby at the same time."

4. The artist claims that most of the ideas in his drawings are "random creative ideas," but in order for them to be born, he browses a lot of reference materials on the Internet and is inspired by films and video games.

6. Looking at Stefan's drawings, one might think that he either loves cats very much or believes that they really see the edge of reality inaccessible to people. But the artist himself does not comment on this.

“I do not want to explain to the viewer what he should associate with my drawings. I just draw for fun and if people refer to a certain dream they had, that's cool, but no, I don't have exactly the same dream."
