Adventures of foreigners in Russia

Foreign stars support the idea of tourism in Russia — although few of them dare to go further than Moscow and St. Petersburg: to Siberia or the Far East. Let's remember such desperate travelers together, look at their photos and get acquainted with their memories.

1. Jimmy Carter on a fishing trip in the Murmansk region

2. Former US President Jimmy Carter is a professional fisherman and loves to come to Russia for fishing. Most often he goes to the north of the Murmansk region or to the Kola Peninsula in pursuit of Atlantic salmon. He arrives on a private plane to Murmansk with ten of his friends, assistants and his wife, and then goes to the Ryaboga fishing region on the Ponoy River, which flows into the White Sea. There is a camp for fishermen there, where the former president stays. On his 90th birthday in 2014, Mr. Carter made himself a gift in the form of a 13-kilogram fish caught. Jimmy Carter used to also like to go fishing in Kamchatka — in 2004 he rafted on the Zhupanova River and caught a 63-centimeter Kamchatka salmon, which is considered a great success even among local experienced fishermen.

3. David Bowie on Transsibe

In 1973, David Bowie went on a tour of Japan, then boarded the Felix Dzerzhinsky steamer in Yokohama (where, by the way, he gave a small concert for passengers) and sailed it to the port of Nakhodka. Bowie suffers from aerophobia and therefore, instead of flying to Moscow, he decided to go there by train. The musician definitely stood out among the passengers, being in his usual slightly eccentric outfit: radical-colored hair, red trousers and a silver cape. Here is what he wrote about his journey: "Siberia is impressive. The whole day we drove along the magical stately forests, rivers and vast plains. I could never imagine that there were still such pristine wild places on the planet." In a column for Mirabelle magazine, Bowie also wrote: "The journey was a flash from another time and dimension and had a huge impact on me. It was very strange to sit on a train, a product of modernity, an example of technological progress, and ride it through lands completely untouched by progress and not spoiled by human inventions." Bowie also sang for the train passengers, even though they didn't understand a word: "They smiled and clapped smartly."

6. Actor Vinnie Jones for the transfer of Russia's Toughest agreed to live like a real Russian guy. During the entire filming, he managed to visit Kamchatka, where he went on patrol for poachers who illegally kill bears, participated in Polar Games and deer races in Vorkuta, worked on bypassing railway tracks in Kotlas, and also went to the Barents Sea. He recalls Russia like this: "Kamchatka is probably my favorite place — because there are lakes there that are just teeming with salmon. There are bears everywhere (once I found myself between a bear and a bear cub and thought I would die of fear), wildlife. Just fantastic. It's terribly cold in Vorkuta, -9 °C, that's all I remember, and in In the Barents Sea, we went out to sea with guys on a fish trawler and saw killer whales."

8. South African musicians Die Antwoord visited with a concert in Krasnoyarsk, and they really liked the city: on their Instagram they constantly broadcast from the streets of the city, photographed against the background of a tire shop, a shawarma tent and a monument with an airplane.

9. In the laconic captions to the pictures it was stated that the lead singer of the group considers himself a "red Russian" and "a nigger from the Eastern bloc." As the commentators of the photo noted, he really fits into the landscape like a native.

12. Snoop Dogg in Novy Urengoy and Mytishchi

Rapper Snoop Dogg in Russia is a frequent guest, and just in the most unexpected parts of it: he lays a nominal star on the "Alley of Stars" in the shopping center in Mytishchi (and at the same time opens it), then goes to a corporate party in Novy Urengoy. According to unconfirmed reports, the Urengoy "daughters" of Gazprom OJSC discharged the musician for a New Year's corporate party for a fee of $ 1.5 million. It is not reported whether the amount of the fee is true, whose idea it was to bring the rapper and whether he liked it in Novy Urengoy, however, a photo of Snoop against the background of the entrance stele to the city appeared immediately after the New Year holidays on the musician's page.
