Soviet historians believed that he did not shoot himself, but was poisoned with cyanide. However, according to the recently declassified documents of the US Central Intelligence Agency, both versions do not correspond to reality: Hitler not only survived, but was in good health for at least ten years after the end of the war.

The hypothesis that Hitler and his wife Eva Braun fled to South America, and the bodies of their doppelgangers were found in the bunker, appeared a long time ago. And has always been considered nothing more than a legend. The document that surfaced in the archives of the CIA forces at least to analyze this hypothesis more carefully.
A report to the CIA headquarters from the Station chief in Caracas (Venezuela), dated October 3, 1955, became public. It refers to information obtained by a scout with the operational pseudonym Cimelody-3.
"On September 29, Cimelody-3 was contacted by a close friend who served under his command in Europe and now lives in the city of Maracaibo. Cimelody-3 chose not to reveal his identity.
A friend of Cimelody-3 stated that at the end of September 1955, Phillip Citroen, a former SS soldier, confidentially informed him that Adolf Hitler was still alive. Citroen met with Hitler in Colombia once a month, arriving in Caracas from Maracaibo under the guise of an employee of the KNSM shipping company. Citroen admitted that he had a recent photo of him with Hitler, but refused to show it."
In addition, the document says that Hitler moved from Venezuela to Argentina in January 1955. According to Citroen, the Fuhrer believed that ten years after the end of the war, the allied countries would no longer pursue him.
