An actress, a singer... and also a rebel and a drug addict. She has already turned 74 years old, and you might think that Lisa has calmed down — but no, it's not in her nature at all!
Liza Minnelli is the daughter of the famous actress Judy Garland and her second husband Vincent Minnelli, born on March 12, 1946. A few years later, her parents divorced, and from her third husband Sidney Laft, Judy gave birth to two more children - Lorna and Joey.
Being the daughter of a star is not easy, and if this star is also characterized by unstable behavior, even more so. From an early age, Lisa had to take care not only of her brother and sister, but also of her mother, who was either depressed or addicted to drugs. Despite her enormous popularity, Judy Garland suffered from a sense of her own inferiority and broadcast her self-doubt to children.
In addition, she could not get along with one partner for a long time, and although the marriage with Sidney Laft lasted 13 years, it was neither calm nor happy.
Thanks to her mother, Lisa got into the cinema at the age of three, and she was often invited to new shoots. At the age of 17, she performed with her mother on the same stage, and Judy even noted her daughter's musical talents.
A difficult childhood greatly affected the behavior of Liza Minnelli. Whether she wanted it or not, but in many ways the actress repeated the fate of her mother. There were legends about her love affairs in Hollywood. Lisa was not a spectacular beauty, but she had the highest self-esteem, which helped her a lot in life.
On March 3, 1967, Lisa got married for the first time - to singer Peter Allen. They had met a few years earlier at a party at Judy's, and it was she who initiated their marriage, believing that it was time for her daughter to settle down.
Lisa didn't mind... until she heard the gossip that Peter was sleeping with her mother! Both denied the affair, but Minnelli was crushed. She was going to divorce her husband, and only the tragic death of Judy Garland from an overdose prevented her: the fifth husband of the actress found her in the bathtub on June 22, 1969.
Lisa plunged headlong into her work, recorded several music albums and received an Oscar nomination for the film "The Barren Cuckoo" in 1970. And two years later, she took the statuette from the ceremony for the painting "Cabaret", after which she filed for divorce.
In 1974, Lisa divorced Allen and a month and a half later married producer Jack Haley Jr. After the divorce, it seemed that her luck was over: the new films were not a commercial success, and Minnelli was no longer at the peak of popularity. Since then, she has been in the gossip column only about the next wedding or leaving the rehabilitation clinic.
Liza Minnelli decided to think about procreation, but after experiencing several miscarriages, she abandoned this idea forever.Obviously, the actress' life was going downhill, and addiction to drugs only accelerated this process. Haley pulled her out of questionable places many times and sent her to rehabilitation centers, put up with lovers... and then he got tired of it, and in early 1979, he and Lisa separated.
On December 4, 1979, Minnelli married sculptor Marc Gero. He did not belong to Hollywood bohemia and in general was the complete opposite of Lisa, apparently, that's why the marriage lasted almost 13 years.
The star pulled herself together, stopped taking drugs and running left, starred in several box office films and returned to Broadway. But the exuberant energy of the actress demanded an exit, and few directors agreed to work with a fickle capricious star.
Lisa was depressed by this, and by the end of the 80s she took up her old ways. In 1991, Mark's patience broke down, and he filed for divorce.
Having regained her freedom, Liza Minnelli decided not to push her luck anymore and gave up bad habits for a while. She had reached her mother's age and definitely didn't want to end up like her. Lisa played on Broadway and did a bit of acting in movies, and also released another music album after a long break.
Then followed another breakdown and treatment for drug addiction. Then Minnelli decided that it was worth giving her personal life another chance. On March 16, 2002, she married producer David Guest. The wedding cost the newlyweds $ 3.5 million, they looked happy, discussed buying another house and the prospect of adopting a child…
A year later, Guest filed for divorce, claiming that Minnelli beat him up. He also wanted to sue her for part of her fortune, but it didn't work out: Lisa had very good lawyers.
But it was not easy for her to survive another mistake, and she again repeated the cycle with drugs and rehabilitation. However, her health is clearly better than her mother's: recently Minnelli looks very good and is engaged in charity work. Maybe she will return to the cinema — she does not deny this possibility.
