A country of fear and death: a refugee from North Korea is afraid that Kim Jong-un will try to kill her

Yeonmi Park, 27, is an active social activist and human rights defender. The girl is sure that for many years she has been on the" black list " of the harsh North Korean tyrant. She worries that one day she will become the target of a killer, so she appears at crowded events only accompanied by security guards. The North Korean authorities consider the refugee an "enemy of the people". Yeonmi fled North Korea in 2007 after paying traffickers to help her travel abroad illegally. She escaped after her father, who had cancer, was thrown into a concentration camp. Since then, the girl constantly receives threats. Yeonmi is afraid that one day he will die from the bullet of an assassin.

Now the activist lives in Chicago and boldly declares from there about the bloody Kim dynasty and his regime, which compares with the rule of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin. She talks about corpses on the street, public executions, and total brainwashing.

Because Yeonmi and her mother have fled the country, their relatives who remain in North Korea are constantly being punished by the government. This will continue for several generations of their family — from three to eight. The girl does not know exactly what fate awaits her family. Some have already been jailed, and some may have been killed.

The human rights activist says that the inhabitants of her native country are dying of hunger. Between 1995 and 1998, millions of people died from malnutrition. Yeonmi believes that this was an artificially created genocide.

In order to instill fear in Koreans, public executions are regularly carried out. The police are forced to bring even children to them and put them in front of them, so that they can see everything better and are afraid to commit any actions against the party. Schoolchildren are brainwashed from a young age, says Yeonmi.

The DPRK was formed after the Second World War during the dictatorship of Kim Il Sung, the grandfather of Kim Jong Un. In North Korea, he is still idolized. Citizens are fed propaganda from childhood and taught to fear the government and the Communist Party — the only party in the country. People are not allowed to travel around the world and use the Internet. Kids are scared that Kim can read their minds and knows how much hair they have on their heads.

After escaping from the hellish regime, Yeonmi first lived in South Korea, and then moved to the United States, where she gained fame as a human rights advocate. However, she continues to fear that dictator Kim Jong-un will try to kill her. Cases where the North Korean government has persecuted and destroyed its unwanted citizens abroad have occurred repeatedly.

In 2017, Kim Jong Nam, the brother of the dictator of the DPRK, was poisoned to death with nerve gas at the airport in Malaysia. They say that the dictator got rid of his brother, because he claimed to be the head of state.

Yeonmi says that some residents of the DPRK have never seen a map of the world in their lives and do not know about the existence of the Internet. Most of them don't even have electricity in their homes. These people firmly believe that the chronology began with the birth of Kim Il Sung, and their race is the only one on the planet.

Despite the threats, Yeonmi Par continues to talk about the horrors of the regime in North Korea and believes that one day Kim will be overthrown. She wants the world to know about the tyrant's misdeeds, so she is not going to be silent.
