By Vika https://pictolic.com/article/9-most-secret-and-protected-places-on-the-planet.htmlThere is no doubt that we have gradually transformed the planet we live on through massive construction projects. While most of these structures are used for perfectly mundane things such as housing, selling food, or education, some are more mysterious. The most secret and well-protected are the places that try very hard to keep most people out. Such places allow only selected people to be inside and do their best to guard their perimeter. Many also try very hard to keep the details of what goes on inside away from the public.
But what are the nine most secret and highly guarded places you should know about?
9 PHOTOS
1. Mountain complex Cheyenne.
First on our list is the ominous Cheyenne mountain range in Colorado, USA. This US military installation is very sensitive and certainly does not welcome visitors! It's heavily guarded by US military personnel and you need the highest level of clearance to even get through the main gate. It was first created in the 1950s in response to growing tensions with Russia during the Cold War. At that time, the threat of long-range bombing was high, so the complex was built into the mountain! Although not as widely used now, it is still a mysterious and well-protected place.
2. Principality of Sealand.
Most people have not heard of the Principality of Sealand, but this is one of the most inaccessible and interesting places on the planet. Although its perimeter is not patrolled by armed guards, it is difficult to get into, and what actually happens inside is rather secretive. In fact, Sealand is an old offshore rigging platform. The platform itself is believed to contain high-tech internet servers that people have used in the past to bypass certain rules or regulations in their country.
3. Fort Knox.
The name Fort Knox is well known to many people and is a famous place in Kentucky, USA. Although it is on our list for being very well protected and guarded. Plus, since most people have never been inside, it really is a mysterious place! Many people think that this is just a well-guarded bank vault, but in fact, it is also a full-fledged military base.
4 Air Force One
Although it is not a place per se, it is still one of the most secret and hard-to-reach places. For those who don't know, Air Force One is the official private jet of the President of the United States. It provides ultra-safe and ultra-fast transportation for the president to his many international meetings and summits. This will also help him quickly run away from danger if necessary.
5. Demilitarized zone of Korea.
This is a piece of land that divides Korea into North and South. With a length of 250 km and a width of 4 km, this is a fairly large piece of land. Since both parts of the country are still in conflict, this is a restricted area. Guards on both sides patrol its border, and anyone who wanders into the demilitarized zone literally takes their lives into their own hands. This is due to the fact that crossing the border from one part of the country to another is prohibited. With so many guards and such massive firepower, the DMZ is a place that most people can't reach.
6. ADX prison.
This is a maximum-security prison, which means that only the worst criminals are sent there. The 400 inmates are said to live very harsh lives and can be alone for up to 23 hours a day. As you'd expect, getting inside the prison gates isn't easy, and there are plenty of systems or armed guards to keep things running smoothly.
7. Woomera's Forbidden Zone.
As you move to Australia, you will discover the secret Woomera Restricted Zone. It is under the control of the South Australian Army, which regularly patrols the area to keep people who are not allowed to enter. This does not always happen, but only when the army tests bombs there and conducts exercises! As you would expect, the public is not allowed in at this time, and the place becomes a closed area. The understandable need to keep people out during this time really raises questions about what's going on and adds to the mystique.
8. Pionen data center.
This next-level data center located in Stockholm, Sweden is just about right for a James Bond movie. As the name suggests, this is the home of servers and data processors. This makes it a place that deals with the sensitive data of those companies that use internal servers. This facility, operated by Bahnhof, is housed in an old nuclear bunker for added protection.
9. Area 51
Although this area has long been known as a place with a high degree of secrecy, it still leads everyone on our list. There is simply nothing more secretive, protected, and closed than Area 51! The total exclusion to the public, combined with internet gossip, means the area is spawning a plethora of theories as to what goes on inside. Of course, many people think that secret military technology or alien ships are stored here. These rumors will continue until the area is open to the public. It is also very well guarded by armed military personnel and the latest high-tech security solutions. Even if you still climbed over the fence, you will soon be captured and harsh interrogations await you.
