This is a comedy series in the horror genre about one of the characters of the Addams — Wednesday family. The viewer remembered her as a small, pale, gloomy girl. And I must say that little has changed over the years, except that Wednesday grew up and went to school. It is this stage of Wednesday's life that the series is dedicated to.
You will be able to watch how an antisocial, gloomy and self-contained girl builds relationships with classmates, solves mystical riddles and changes literally before your eyes. And if we haven't managed to convince you to watch the series "Wednesday" yet, here are at least 5 more reasons to do it immediately!
When directors undertake to remake films and TV series that everyone loves, as a rule, it turns out badly. They rarely leave at least something of the original, modernizing it and adjusting it to the current standards. As a result, the audience returns, albeit to the old, but so beloved classics. The series "Wednesday" is an exception to this rule.
The authors of the project tried to preserve the spirit of the franchise about the Adams family as much as possible. However, there was also a slight "modernization". It touched mainly on technology. In the series, teenagers use smartphones, laptops, sit in social networks and generally behave like ordinary teenage zoomers. But even here, Wednesday Addams, in her usual manner, denies everything that society "imposes" on her. Although, after a few episodes, this will change…
It is impossible not to note the neat references to the films about the Addams. For example, the attitude of the main character to the pilgrims, which has already been touched upon in films ("The Values of the Addams family"). Or legendary clicks! In addition, the authors of the series managed to show the "right" relationship between members of the Addams family. Despite all their unusual, gloomy and strange behavior, they remain a close-knit, loving family. Even with their own quirks.
The cast of the series "Wednesday" is really impressive! The authors of the project managed to gather Catherine Zeta-Jones, Ricky Lindhome ("Gilmore Girls"), Gwendoline Christie ("Game of Thrones"), Luis Guzman ("We are the Millers") and many other talented actors on one set. But especially fans of the franchise were pleased with the appearance of Christina Richie. The fact is that it was she who played Wednesday Addams in Barry Sonnenfeld's cult film. In the series, Christina Richie appeared as a teacher at the Nevermore Academy — the one where Wednesday went to study.
Special attention should be paid to the main character of the series, played by the talented actress Jenna Ortega. She is a nonconformist teenager who hates almost everyone around, wears all black and enjoys the suffering of other people. At the same time, the authors of the project made it more "complicated" than it was in the franchise. The "new" Wednesday knows what fear, anxiety, pain and even love are. She just deftly knows how to hide these feelings.
Despite the fact that the series "Wednesday" is aimed mainly at a teenage audience, even the adult audience will definitely not be bored when watching it. From the very first series, the project sets a fairly high pace of narration. New characters are constantly appearing, mysterious events are taking place, and in parallel with this, a detective story is developing, in which the main character got into.
The style of scene construction itself does not let you get bored. There are practically no long "drawn out" scenes in the series — they all abruptly replace each other. After exhaustive dialogues, other dialogues begin, and fights are filmed quickly, efficiently and without long preparation. The result is a maximally concentrated stream of different events, through which a fascinating detective story stretches like a thin thread.
It would even be strange if in such a series, the humor was of a different color. The authors of "Wednesday" managed to preserve not only the general spirit of the cult franchise, but also the humor that abounded in previous projects. In the series you will hear jokes about death, injections in the direction of religion, friendship, romance, love of life… Wednesday's dark sarcasm — her essential "trick" — will cheer you up throughout each episode.
But here you need to understand: if you don't like the humor at the beginning of the series, then you won't like it later. After all, more "adult" jokes on the topic of sex, drugs and other ambiguous things will go on… By The Way, A Thing! The most mysterious member of the Addams family, namely the living right hand, will also appear in the series. And, believe me, even a hand without a body will anneal here! Therefore, it is better for the particularly sensitive and chaste to immediately move away from the screens.
The mere presence of Tim Burton in the list of authors should be enough to attract the attention of viewers. The director of such cult films as "Batman", "Edward Scissorhands", "Sleepy Hollow", "Planet of the Apes", has long established himself as a master of his craft. Therefore, the fact is obvious: if Burton is involved in the creation of the film, then the film is good! The series is doubly good, because in this case Burton not only directed the project, but also personally directed the first four episodes.
Nevertheless, fans of the "great and terrible" should understand that something absolutely "bertonsky" from the series should not be expected. It is not too spectacular in terms of visual effects, far from Burton's characteristic arthouse style, not informal and even, one might say, everyday. But this is not the typical teen TV series that we are used to.
Summing up, I would like to say that you should not expect a masterpiece from Wednesday. However, this is a great series to kill a couple of boring evenings, enjoy an interesting detective story, sparkling black humor and beautiful, bright characters.
