105th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America

Categories: Children | History | North America

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with approximately 2.7 million young people and over a million adult volunteers. The goals of the organization, as well as the Scout movement itself, are the physical, mental and spiritual development of young people. Scouts have their own method, laws, emblem, handshake, tie and motto: "Be ready!" ("Be prepared").

It all started like this: in 1909, Chicago publisher William Boyce got lost in the fog on one of the streets of London and some unknown scout helped him find his way. The boy refused the money that Boyce offered him as a sign of gratitude, explaining that he had simply done his daily good deed. Impressed, Boyce decides to meet Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouting movement, and four months later, after returning to America, on February 8, 1910, he founded the Boy Scouts of America.
