This series gives us a dramatic and interesting insight into what life was like at the time.
Some historical series is based on the life of a real person, while others focus on completely original characters. While those focused on real, historical figures aren't always the most historically accurate depictions of their lives, does that make them less interesting to watch? Obviously not since they became so popular.

1. Borgia.
If there's one reason to watch this show, it's Jeremy Irons as Rodrigo de Borgia / Pope Alexander VI. The series, as the name suggests, focuses on the notorious Borgia family and their rise to power and shame in Renaissance Italy. If the brilliant and despicable image of the scandalous pontiff Irons was not enough to attract the attention of the audience, then his plot is absolutely seething and slipping from greed, intimidation, betrayal, and blasphemous scandals.

Crown is definitely one of the most famous historical series right now. The series premiered on Netflix in 2016 and stars Claire Foy as the young Queen Elizabeth II.
