And want to visit Pompeii on the quarantine? Now we have the opportunity to: archaeologists are using drones took an interesting video tour of the recently excavated sections of the ancient city that was buried under ash after the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 ad.
Over the past two years in the archaeological Park of Pompeii, scientists have found many valuable artifacts through which you can learn more about the life of the city before the eruption.
During the quarantine, Park Director Massimo Osanna decided to give viewers the opportunity to visit Pompeii without leaving home he made a small virtual tour of the ancient city. Amazing footage from a drone shows the recently excavated areas of the city and its equally famous neighbour, the ancient city of Herculaneum.
First, the camera moves over the "house with garden" — a place where were found the remains of 11 victims of the eruption, mostly women and children. Here is preserved colorful murals that adorn the walls of the house, and garden beds with the remains of plants.
The drone then moved to another building — house of Orion, named for a colorful mosaic image of Orion, found here. One of the most interesting finds in this house is the mosaic, which depicts a half-human half-polycarpio with butterfly wings (pictured below).
Furthermore, archaeologists have shown how it will look after reconstruction neighbour Pompeii, the ancient city of Herculaneum. Using 3D scanning, they recreate whole buildings. Herculaneum, like Pompeii, was buried under a layer of ash during the eruption of Vesuvius on 24 August 79 ad. Archaeologists updates the virtual map of the city every week, adding new recovered with the help of 3D-scanning objects.
