The youngest mother in history is a 5-year-old girl from Peru
At the age of five, Lina Medina seemed to suffer from some kind of disease, because her stomach was rapidly increasing in size. However, after the examination, it turned out that the girl was pregnant.
In 1933 , in a poor family from the Andean village of Tikrapo in Peru Lina Medina was born… And five years later, this girl became the youngest mother in history. Her case is still being studied in medical schools around the world, but this does not make the girl's story any less tragic. It is absolutely incredible, but nevertheless true. When Medina was only five years old, her mother noticed that her stomach had become unusually large, and the girl herself constantly complained of abdominal pain. Naturally, concerned parents took her to the nearest hospital, where the girl was examined. At first, doctors thought that Medina had a tumor, but after taking tests, they realized that somehow the girl was already seven months pregnant.
About a month and a half later, at the age of 5 years and 7 months, Medina gave birth to a boy by Caesarean section — the girl had too small a pelvis for traditional childbirth. The boy was born on May 14, 1939.
Medina had a completely healthy baby weighing 2.7 kg. The girl named her son Gerardo - in honor of Dr. Gerardo Lozada, who helped her give birth.
During the cesarean section, doctors discovered something incredible: Medina had fully matured genitals. This condition is called premature puberty. According to her medical record, the young Peruvian woman's menstruation began at the age of three.
Gerardo grew up thinking that Medina was his sister, not his mother. However, at the age of 10, he was told the truth.
For some time, Medina's father was arrested on suspicion of raping his daughter, but due to lack of evidence, he was released. The circumstances that led to the pregnancy remain a mystery to this day.
In his 2002 book, obstetrician Jose Sandoval wrote that the girl was a normal child from a psychological point of view. According to him, Medina liked to play with dolls more than with her son.
Medina's son grew up quite healthy and normal, but died at the age of 40 in 1979. In this photo, Gerardo is on the left at the age of 18, and Medina is on the right at the age of 23.
Later , Medina married Raul Jurado and in 1972 gave birth to another son. Lina died on November 8, 2015 from complications after a heart attack.
