The mountain village of Bormida is located in the province of Savona in northwestern Italy, about 80 kilometers from Genoa. The settlement is located high in the mountains, but not far from the sea. Therefore, the air there is very clean.

The village was founded in the Middle Ages and boasts amazing views and ancient architecture.

However, today this idyllic settlement has only 394 inhabitants and risks becoming another Italian ghost town. The reason for this depopulation is unemployment: many locals left Bormida in search of work.

In order to attract new residents to Bormida, the mayor of the commune Daniele Galliano decided to pay monetary compensation to all those who decide to move to them. He announced his initiative on the official Facebook page. "If you move permanently to our commune, we will pay you two thousand euros."

Although there are so few residents left in the settlement, there are four restaurants, a library, a post office, a shop, a family hotel, a pharmacy and a doctor who comes to Bormida three times a week.

In the neighboring town, 20 kilometers from Bormida, there is a Michelin-starred restaurant, Locanda dell'Angelo, which is quite popular with tourists.

In addition to monetary compensation, those wishing to move to Bormida will receive another important bonus: the opportunity to rent good housing at very low prices — from 50 to 120 euros per month.

For example, one of the offers: rent a house with a kitchen, bathroom, living room, garage, storage room, basement and four bedrooms for just some 50 euros per month (12.5 euros per week). For comparison: renting a two-bedroom house in central London will cost about 3,000 pounds a week ($3,900).

Dozens of people were interested in the mayor's proposal: residents of Denmark, India, the United States, Great Britain, Hungary and Indonesia already want to move to a mountain village. At the same time, the lack of work does not bother them at all. After all, many people can work remotely and therefore are interested in whether there is a high-speed Internet connection in the village.
