The Horrors of Manga Master Junji Ito
If you are a fan of manga, you probably know the works of Junji Ito. This comic book creator has been considered unsurpassed in the horror genre for many years. Ito is not only talented, but also prolific — during his work he has created a huge number of comics. Only the most devoted fans of the work of this mangaka can boast of a thorough knowledge of all his creations.
Junji Ito dreamed of creating comics from early childhood. He was born in 1963 in Sakashita, Gifu Prefecture and was the youngest in the family. The older sister of the future manga master drew well and her brother tried his best to adopt her skills.
Only Ito's interests were different and he did not draw princesses, but monsters. His idol in childhood and youth was the creator of comics Kazuo Umezu and the influence of this illustrator is clearly visible in the works of Junji. Despite his passion for drawing, Ito, as an obedient son of his parents, learned to be a dental technician.
For a while, he combined working in a dentist's office with drawing manga, but then he made his choice. The white coat and medical gloves were abandoned and what had recently been a hobby became the main job.
In 1987, Ito debuted with a short illustrated story in Gekkan Halloween magazine. His gift was immediately noticed, and a good review was left by Kazuo Umezu himself. The first success just inspired the guy and he started working like crazy. Comics came out one after another and Ito's weight in the manga world grew by leaps and bounds.
Now Junji Ito is known no less than his idol Umezu. Anime is filmed based on his comics, and he himself is invited to work on games and films. Now Ito is 58 years old and he is in great shape. The author regularly pleases his fans with new works, conducts master classes and sits on the jury of famous competitions.
