June Rivas followed this rule, but she was constantly being picked on because of her appearance. In particular, Jun's boss got mad at her because she had her hair in a ponytail. Rivas wrote a harassment complaint to the human resources department of her office. Then her boss sent out a memo in which a new dress code was established, prohibiting bra straps, hats, sandals, cleavage, open back, lace and even ethnic headscarves on display. The girl decided that it was time to sue for this.
June is not the first woman of color to be harassed at work for her hairstyle. Recently, one of the employees of the Zara store told on social networks about her experience when two managers demanded that she let down her braid and put her hair in a smooth bun. A waitress from Toronto, on the contrary, was sent home because during work her hair was gathered in a tight bun.
Rivas complained about her boss to the American Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, but while they are studying the case, she tries to fulfill the requirements of her boss, which turned out to be easy, because she has a lot of cosplay costumes.
