No Sasha and Zhen: Italian court forces couple to change daughter's name to a more feminine one
An Italian couple who named their daughter Blue is being forced through the court to change their name to some "more feminine" one. Otherwise, the judge will come up with a new name for the girl himself.
Source: Oddity CentralAccording to the presidential decree, the child's name must match the gender. Apparently, the Italian authorities do not consider Blue a suitable name for a girl. For this reason, the couple was summoned to court to choose a different name for their daughter.
Blue's parents are going to challenge the name change in court, because Blue's name is called by children not only in the West (for example, the daughter of Jay Z and Beyonce is called Blue Ivy), but also in Italy. According to statistics, in 2016 there were already six women with this name in Italy.
The Italian newspaper La Republica managed to contact 41-year-old Blue Lapore from Rome. She said that her mother persuaded her to register her daughter under this name. The woman explained that the names change over time — for example, the name Celeste used to be called boys, and now exclusively girls.
