Categories: History |

Fires in ancient times was a terrible enemy of Moscow. The entry of the first Moscow fire is dated in the annals 1177 the year when Moscow was burned Ryazan Prince Gleb. Later fires at the mother see mentioned more than once. One of the biggest was a fire on July 19 1701, when lit up the cells of the Novospassky monastery, and the fire spread around the Kremlin.

Almost all Moscow was burnt in 1812, when a fire destroyed almost all the wood in the mass of the building. What was Moscow to "Napoleon" fire can be seen today only in the engravings of that time.
