Kids who take better photos than most "professionals"
Some have not yet met the second anniversary in their lives, others celebrated the first a few years ago. The jury of the international photography competition Sony World Photography Awards named 13 best photographers in non-professional categories.
In total, about 100 thousand applications were submitted for the Open and Youth competitions. Of these, 333 photographers were allowed to participate. In each nomination, the jury members chose only one best shot. The 2016 awards were headed by Jael Marschner, former photo editor for Britain's Time Out and Sunday Times Travel Magazine.

Children and teenagers from 12 to 19 years old could take part in the Youth Competition. Out of 103 participants, the jury chose only three winners.
Youth competition, nomination "Culture"
"Sepehr", Jamshidi Fard, Iran. “Lake Urmia has always been a place where people were cleansed. They cleansed their body of traces of bright sunlight, cleansed their mind, making it snow-white, like this landscape.
Youth competition, nomination "Nature"
Framed Mount Kazbek, Georgia, Anais Stupka, Italy. “My family and I traveled around Georgia and stayed at one of the local hotels. I took the picture when I was waiting for the elevator to go down. It has good and bad. For example, at the top of the mountain you see a beautiful church, and at the bottom you see a village living in poverty.”
Youth competition, nomination "Portrait"
"Sarah", Sam Delaware, USA. “Sarah is my sister. After moving to college, I realized that I missed my family, my mother and father, especially my sister. Like many around me, I left my family and felt a mixed sense of nostalgia and excitement at the new life I was about to start. The portrait is the image of my sister that was always in my head when I thought about her.”
An open competition is held for participants of any level. This year 230 photographers were admitted to the competition. We present you the winners in each of the 10 nominations among non-professionals.
