85-year—old Evgeny Popov, a history teacher from the Komi Republic, gave all his savings to orphaned children. More than 60 years (64 years, to be precise) Evgeny Vasilyevich was saving up for a new house — he himself lives in his parents' house in the village of Aikino. One day Popov realized that he had a million rubles on his account, but he could not buy a good house with it. Then a lonely old man decided to transfer all the money to orphans. When the journalists found out about the incident, Grandpa just shrugged his shoulders: "They are destitute."

But one million, and there are many orphans — how to choose? Evgeny Vasilyevich admits that he did not hesitate for a long time. From the window of his old house, which stands on the high bank of the Vychegda River, rare settlements are barely visible. Somewhere there, across the river, among the dots on the horizon is the village of Gam, and in it is the Gavroche orphanage. According to Popov, he himself has not been to the Din for a long time, and in general he has been to few places lately — his legs barely hold, his hands do not always obey. Therefore, Evgeny Vasilyevich entrusted his former colleague to settle organizational and financial issues, and then the money was transferred from all six of Popov's savings books to Gavroche.

The 85-year-old historian himself laughs that, although he has never had a chance to start a family and have children in his entire life, now he has the most children.

It should be noted that the story of Evgeny Popov and his act caused a great public outcry. Many residents of Russia, including famous people, report that they are ready to help Yevgeny Vasilyevich with money, food, clothes, repair of his old house. For example, producer Max Fadeev published a big post that he was ready to start fundraising in support of an old man from Komi. At the moment, it is known that the fundraising is not yet open, but in the near future the situation is likely to change. Yevgeny Popov himself, when asked by journalists how to help him, only laughs fatherly: "I don't need anything, I have everything."
