How used disposable tableware turns into park benches
The American fast food chain Chick-Fil-A does not throw plastic cups used by customers to the landfill, but instead turns them into benches. Here's what this process looks like…
First, customers throw used glasses into a special trash bin.
After that, the plastic tableware is sent for pre-processing.
During manual sorting, liquids and waste are removed from the glasses.
After sorting, the dishes are crushed into 2.5-5-centimeter pieces.
And pressed.
The pressed dishes are sent to a specialized enterprise, where they are crushed into very small pieces.
And it mixes with other types of recycled plastic.
After that, the plastic particles are melted and the desired parts of the benches are cast in special molds under pressure.
After cooling, parts of the benches are removed from the molds.
Screw holes are drilled in the assembly shop.
And then they put the bench together.
The end result of the whole process described above is such a nice bench in the park.
