1. The number of chosen ones among the fair sex is not regulated by the rules, which is why this area began to be called the "Island of Free Love". Despite the fact that the colonists inhabited these territories many years ago, the Trobriands did not want to develop and cultivate them.

They, like their distant ancestors, prefer to lead a primitive way of life and survive through hunting and gathering. To the surprise of many colonists, one of the innovations among the inhabitants of the tribe nevertheless took root. We are talking about the game of "cricket", which the Trobriands accompany with active songs and dances.

2. Only this game is now used not as entertainment, but to resolve important disputes between members of the tribe, according to the principle: "Who wins is right."

Trombians are extremely hostile towards tourists, as they are extremely worried about the safety of their people. Most of all they are afraid of white-skinned people, considering them the most dangerous. Therefore, travelers are not recommended to become guests of the island, because otherwise, the consequences can be very different.

3. The islanders also relate to puberty differently than it is customary for civilized people. They begin to learn the "science of love" from an early age, so in their younger years, they already have a lot of experience in this matter.

So that the process of seclusion does not become public, the inhabitants of the island came up with huts to reunite with their soulmates. In the local dialect, they are called "Bukmatuls", and there are no restrictions for men and women in them.

4. Even when married, Trobriands may retire to huts with whomever they wish, in order to become more proficient in the science of love. Moreover, a man does not have the right to choose a partner for himself, because this privilege belongs exclusively to a woman. Women show signs of attention to the chosen one with the help of shells.

They lightly scratch the man's clothes with a sharp shell, hinting at an evening together. The Trobriands lead their genealogy along the maternal line since it is the woman who is the successor of the family.

5. Superstitious people believe that the spirit of the ancestors comes to the resident of the tribe for conception, and the man does not play a special role in this process. The marriage itself is concluded in the most primitive way. If a woman decides to stay with a man in a hut until dawn, then she automatically becomes his wife, thereby giving her husband a special favor.
