Bill Bernstein captures the last days of disco
Clubs: here they drink, dance, and even have sex in toilet cubicles. If only walls could talk! But they can't. It's just lucky that there are people like Bill Bernstein who can capture all these club stories with a camera.
Bill Bernstein documented New York clubbing in the late 70s, and his photographs show that clubs are primarily a place of refuge and a sense of belonging to a certain culture and community.
Bernstein has photographed locations such as Studio 54, Paradise Garage, Fire Ireland, and small discos in Brooklyn and Harlem. All these clubs played disco back then!
