1. Michael Rockefeller.
Michael Rockefeller, son of the famous millionaire Nelson Rockefeller, was an ethnographer and anthropologist. As a child, Michael loved history and anthropology. Later he decided to become a scientist and entered Harvard University. After graduation, the young specialist wanted to go on a scientific expedition to Oceania to study the life of local residents. His father supported Michael and paid for the trip.
In the fall of 1961, Michael went on an expedition to New Guinea with the Dutch ethnographer Rene Vassin. Accompanied by 2 guides, the scientists traveled to the places where the locals lived and exchanged things with them. Sometime later, they had a unique collection, but Michael did not want to stop there. The scientist went to the local Asmat tribe by boat. The tribe was famous for eating people.
On the way to the island, the boat capsized, and everyone, except for Michael, decided to return: but he wanted to swim to his destination. After that, he was never seen again. Many people think he drowned or was eaten by crocodiles, but these are either unlikely versions. According to the most likely version, he was killed and eaten by the tribe.
2. Amelia Earhart.
Amelia Earhart was an aviation pioneer and writer. She was the first female pilot to cross the Atlantic Ocean in 1928. In 1937, Amelia decided to take a tour around the world with navigator Fred Noonan. The pilots managed to cover most of the way. They still had to fly 11,000 kilometers to their final destination over the Pacific Ocean.
However, after a while, the plane was lost. According to experts, the weather conditions were very bad, they did not have enough fuel and the radio did not work well. The search for the plane lasted more than 2 weeks, but there was no result. There have been many wild theories about what happened to Amelia - some even think the Japanese kidnapped her. But a researcher from the University of Tennessee believes that the remains found in 1940 most likely belonged to the famous pilot.
3. Antoine de Saint-Exupery.
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was a renowned French writer, poet, and professional pilot. On July 31, 1944, the author was piloting a French plane. The pilot was supposed to take aerial photography near the Alps. But the plane never returned to the airport.
Over the decades, there have been many mystical theories about what happened to the famous writer. But on September 7, 1998, the captain of the Horizon ship found a bracelet at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea with the name of the writer and the name of his wife. In 2000, a diver reported seeing a plane at the bottom of the sea, where a bracelet was found.
In 2008, researchers still hoping to find the truth contacted Horst Rippert, the German pilot who shot down the writer's plane. According to Rippert, on July 31, 1944, he saw a plane with French colors and decided to attack. The German pilot saw the plane crash into the sea. The former German pilot also said that he loves Saint-Exupery's books. And if he knew that it was him, he would not have fired.
4. Richie Edwards.
Richie Edwards was an English musician and guitarist for the alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers, which were famous in the 90s. Edwards, like many rock musicians, suffered from depression and anorexia. On February 1, 1995, the band was due to fly to the United States for a promotional tour, and Richie did not show up for the flight. At 7 am, the musician left his hotel room to meet the rest of the band at the airport. But he didn’t come. The musicians started looking for Richie, but they found nothing.
This is a really strange case because Richie has been seen several times elsewhere: in a taxi in Newport and at the station in Severn View. The search for a musician lasted more than 10 years. On November 23, 2009, Richie was finally pronounced dead.
5. Oscar "Zeta" Acosta.
Oscar Zeta Acosta was an American lawyer, writer, and activist known for his friendship with Hunter S. Thompson, who named him as his lawyer in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
In 1974, the lawyer traveled to Mexico, where he eventually went missing. In May 1974, Oscar called his son and told him that he was going to board a boat full of white snow. It was rumored that Acosta was alive and hiding in Miami, but after a while, his friend Hunter Thompson wrote an obituary. According to Thompson, Oscar had a drug problem. The lawyer's body was never found.
6. Sean Flynn.
Sean was the only son of Hollywood actor Errol Flynn. Unlike his successful father, Sean was never good at the cinema and he was disappointed with himself. After making 10 films, Sean decided to become a reportage photographer. His photographs were regularly published in large newspapers. On April 6, 1970, Flynn and a colleague traveled around Cambodia on bicycles. At one of the checkpoints, they were stopped. Since then, no one has seen the photographer. There was a rumor that he was seen in Mexico many years later, but there is no evidence.
