Nugget point is one of the sacred places on the coast of Otago on the South island in New Zealand. It is located in the Northern end of the Catlins coast down the road from Kaka point. And on these steep rocks stands a solitary lighthouse, surrounded by rocky islets — the Nuggets. Five minutes and you're at the lighthouse, which offers stunning views of the coast from all sides. Just below the lighthouse on the cliffs you can see seals playing in the rocky lagoons and basking in the sun. The Nugget point is also home to sea lions, petrels, cormorants, penguins, spoonbills and a large colony of gannets. Periodically, here you can find sea elephants and leopards.
