The traditional Ethiopian Dasanech tribe is beginning to gradually enter the world of international consumerism - consumerism. Photographer Eric Laforgue visited their lands in 2013 and saw that traditional tribal jewelry has changed due to the introduction of affordable mass products into the country - primarily Chinese.

“They mix foreign modern styles with traditional tribal jewelry, which gives them a unique look,” Laforgue says.

The tribals got new roads and big farms, which is why they became interested in Western culture, clothing and fashion.

Men, for example, have started wearing old sports caps, as well as hairpins and artificial flowers - and no one laughs at them. They also attach old watches to their clothes and hair, partly in the hope of attracting the attention of tourists. The more a foreigner wants to photograph them, the more they can ask for money for a photo.
