By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/why-did-the-photographer-drown-the-mermaids-in-plastic-bottles.htmlPhotographer from Montreal Benjamin Won Wong is fascinated by the theme of water, but for his latest project Mermaids Hate Plastic ("Mermaids hate plastic"), he had to lift the lens out of the water to draw attention to a serious problem.
According to statistics, the average American uses about 167 plastic bottles every year. By the time he reaches 60, this number grows to 10 thousand. Therefore, Won Wong took 10,000 plastic bottles from the Tomra recycling center for his photo project, brought them to the warehouse and started working with a large group of people. The result is a series of very beautiful images that tell about the environmental problem in an unusual way.

Plastic in the ocean causes much more harm than direct water pollution, because it releases toxins that can infect water sources, and this negatively affects the purity of the atmosphere. The hashtag #MermaidsHatePlastic was created for the photo project and related information.
