In 1969, the seething water flow that falls over the American waterfall (with two brothers — "Horseshoe" and "Veil" — it forms a complex of waterfalls, which is called Niagara), for a while shrank to a modest stream. Fearing further erosion, which threatened to completely destroy this natural wonder, the US Army Corps of Engineers decided to drain it for a while in order to strengthen the soil faults. The American part of Niagara Falls was bared for five months.
