But sometimes it’s still worth changing your habits and taking a walk along the most beautiful stairs in the world. 1. On the mountain top of the hill of the Spanish island of Gastelugache, there is an unusually beautiful and picturesque staircase of 237 steps. It was built in the tenth century and led to the hut of an old hermit. To fully enjoy the beauties of these places, it is best to come here in spring or autumn. In summer it is usually very crowded and noisy.

2. "Mount Buren". This name is given to a staircase built in 1881 in Liege. With the help of it, the military guarding the city from enemy attacks could safely descend to the center from a hill. The staircase has been perfectly preserved to this day. Those who master all 374 steps will have a beautiful view of the city and the Meuse River.

3. A 95.1 meter high spiral staircase is installed in China along the slope of the Tiaihan Mountain in Lingzhou. A walk along this staircase will undoubtedly appeal to all those who like to “tickle their nerves” and beginner climbers. But before starting the descent, you need to fill out a series of questionnaires and documents that will confirm that you are not yet sixty, and you have no problems with your heart or lungs. This is done for safety and health reasons.

4. The Great Hanshin Earthquake Memorial of Japan is a garden with an unusual and intricate landscape design. It was created on the mountainside of Awaji Island and has one hundred levels of height. Each level has a beautiful flower bed and stairs.

5. Fort de Ruviere was built back in the seventeenth century. To protect against the enemy, a moat was dug around it, which was only partially filled with water. The depth of the pit was such that the boats got stuck in the mud, but it was not possible to pass it on foot. A few years ago, after the fortress was opened to the public, it was necessary to resolve the issue of the crossing. In order to preserve the history of this place and not spoil the general view, the architects proposed a very original idea - to drown the bridge in water. The water's edge almost completely coincides with the upper part of the bridge and makes it completely invisible from afar. The unusual construction was named "Moses Bridge".

6. The famous staircase leading to the canyon is located next to the large Pailon del Diablo waterfall (Ecuador). This is one of the main local attractions. Therefore, if you are ever going to visit this country, do not forget about this picturesque descent, thirty minutes from the city of Benos.

7. In the village of Abaneri near Jaipur, there is an unusual ancient well, Chand Baori. The structure was built in 800 and consists of 13 spans with 3500 narrow steps. This area is very dry, so the builders gave the well a shape that allows maximum preservation of precious moisture. At the base of the well, the air temperature is always about five or six degrees cooler, so the locals often come here to rest during the heat wave.

8. To facilitate the way from the coast to the city and back, the inhabitants of Santorini built a steep staircase in 1715 right in a steep mountain slope. Due to the terrain, the length of the stairs turned out to be as much as 1300 meters. It was not possible for everyone to overcome such a long journey, so residents usually used donkeys to lift cargo and passengers. In 1979, a cable ladder was installed, but many tourists prefer, as before, to climb the picturesque slope while sitting on a donkey.

9. From all points of the Austrian city of Graz, the old Schlossberg tower is visible. An impressive staircase leads to it, carved right into the thickness of the rock. Almost everyone can overcome 260 stairs, but those who wish can use the elevator. Before the tourists who have climbed to the top of the mountain, an unforgettable view of the city will open.

10. The Potemkin Stairs is one of the most famous sights of the Hero City of Odessa. Initially, it was called the Richelieu staircase. In many modern guidebooks, it is described as a formal entrance to the city from the sea. The total length of the stairs is 142 meters, and the height is -27 meters.

11. Haiku Celestial Stairs installed on the Hawaiian island of Oahu in 1942. Its construction was caused by the need to provide an uninterrupted communication line to the naval radio station, located at an altitude of 850 meters. The restoration of the stairs in 2003 cost the local authorities $875,000. But for visitors this object remained closed.

12. Engineers Jürg Konzett and Rolf Bachofner connected the multi-level slopes of the Traversinertobel in Switzerland by developing a fifty-six-meter long, complex staircase-bridge. The difference between the two heights is almost twenty-two meters. Previously, they were connected by a rope bridge, but it was destroyed by a landslide.

13. A metal staircase with the original name "Tiger and Turtle" is located on the slope of Duisburg (Germany). The twenty-one-meter-tall structure has a complex spiral shape. Visitors can walk through the labyrinths of the stairs, but they will not be able to walk it completely from edge to edge. Since in the central part there is a dizzying "dead loop".

14. On a slope along Dumfries Gardens in Scotland is the picturesque Cascade of the Universe. Large steep steps rise straight from the pond and lead to a beautiful pavilion at the top. Each flight of stairs is separated from each other by a large observation deck with comfortable benches. Here you can relax and admire the opening landscapes. The gardens are private property. Therefore, only once a year this place is open to visitors.
