The city is located in the south of the European part of Russia, 500 km from Moscow, on the banks of the Voronezh reservoir and the Don River. Voronezh is considered the birthplace of the Russian navy and the Soviet airborne assault. For the first time in the world, serial production of the passenger supersonic aircraft Tu-144 and the first Soviet wide-body aircraft Il-86 was launched in the city.
In 2012, Voronezh became the 15th millionaire city in Russia. In September 2016, Voronezh will celebrate its 430th anniversary.

Voronezh was founded as a watch fortress in 1585.
In 1696, after the unsuccessful First Azov campaign, Peter I decided to create a navy and chose Voronezh as the place for its construction. Thus, from 1696 to 1711, 215 ships were built here - the city became the cradle of the Russian fleet.
The Voronezh reservoir is the largest in the Central Chernozem region.
