Since the 60s of the nineteenth century, several photographers from Moscow and St. Petersburg have worked on creating a photographic series of "Russian Types": portraits of peasants, working citizens, artisans, street vendors, and so on. In Russia, these images were not popular and commercial success, so they were intended mainly for the tourist market, for export.
