Travel Photographer Of The Year 2013 Winners

The results of the international competition Travel Photographer of the Year 2013, held since 2003, have been summed up. Among the categories of the contest, held for the 10th time, are both series of photographs on given topics and single photographs.

According to the creators of the competition, photographers Chris and Karen Coe, their goal was to show that travel photography is not limited to beautiful pictures and postcard photographs, but is capable of reflecting real life in all its manifestations. For this reason, there is a wide variety of competition categories, from landscapes and animal photography to reportage and urban sketches.

We present to your attention a selection of the best photos from this competition. These amazing photographs capture both well-known places and remote corners of our planet, which not all of us are destined to visit. The photos were taken by both professional photographers and amateurs from a hundred different countries of the world.

1. The main prize of the competition - "Cutty Sark" - went to British photographer Timothy Allen for his pictures of the mud-finish festival, the life of the Dogon in Mali and the people of Wales and Bhutan.

4. Jonathan Rystrom from Denmark won the title of Best Young Photographer 2013.

The 14-year-old boy became interested in photography during a safari he went on with his grandfather. The jury was shocked by his photograph, which shows a woman talking on a mobile phone in Croatia. He is the second prize winner from Denmark. “If Jonathan continues to develop in this direction, then a bright future awaits him,” say the jury members.

6. A photo by Vietnam-based American Justin Mott was awarded the highest award in the category of a single photo under the theme “Extraordinary”.

7. In the Single Color Portfolio Section, the award went to Jino Lee from Singapore for a series of photographs of a fisherman on the Dongjiang River in China.

8. In the same category, Emmanuel Cope from France won the award for best single shot of a waterfall in Iceland.

10. This touching moment was captured by a Swiss photographer in the Virunga Mountains, Rwanda.

11. Thanks to this photo of an Indian boy, photographer Gavin Gu won the prize for the best portfolio.

12. This is the winning photo in the Disappearing Peoples and Cultures category. It depicts a hunter with an eagle in his home in Mongolia.

16. 10-year-old Patria Prasaisa from Indonesia won the 14 and under age category for a series of photographs about an ant colony. In the photo: Tailor ant and weevil, India

17. The award in the New Talent category went to British student Tom Pepper for his portfolio of what a typical day in New York could be like.

18. The judges of this competition were famous professional photographers Eamon McCabe, Nick Meers, Chris Weston, publisher of the German magazine FOTO. In the photo: the work of British photographer Kat Winton. Fisherman in the Andaman Sea.

19. Based in Taiwan, British-born Gavin Gough won the Vanishing and Emerging Cultures section for the portfolio of the Calcutta Skateboarding Club in India.

20. Jasper Doest from Holland and Johnny Haglund from Norway shared top honors in the wildlife photography category. Doest's work reflects the life of Japanese macaques in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

22. But Johnny Haglund reflected in his work hunting for alligators in Louisiana, in the USA.

23. There were also two winners in the beginner category. One of the awards went to a grain seller in Jaipur, India, taken by Merissa Kuek.

24. The second award went to Stuart Draper from the UK for filming in Santa Teresa, one of the districts of Rio de Janeiro.
