But the most famous killer of all time is still considered not the terrible Ted, but Jack the Ripper.
One way or another, when the world starts talking about any new maniac, everyone gets wildly scared. History remembers the names of some serial killers who, despite increased police action, remained at large. So, the top 10 maniacs who have not been caught so far, although a lot of time has passed since their appearance.

1. Monster of the Andes
Colombian maniac Pedro Alonso Lopez, although he was caught by the police, spent only 16 years in prison, and then was released. And this is despite his sincere confessions that the blood of more than 300 people was dried on the killer's hands! The current location of the maniac is still unknown, so Lopez can be considered caught, but it is unlikely that he was justly punished.
2. Sweeney Todd
This dangerous serial killer has become the hero of many musicals and films (pictured is Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd from the film of the same name). And although some believe that this bloodthirsty Englishman was just a fictional villain, others say that a maniac nicknamed Sweeney Todd was a real person who worked as a hairdresser and killed people with a strange chair.
3. Lumberjack from New Orleans
This killer committed atrocities in and around New Orleans from the spring of 1918 to the fall of 1919. The woodcutter, living up to his nickname, dealt with the victims with an axe. It was not possible to catch the maniac, or at least to establish his controversial personality.
4 Alphabet Killer
On account of this serial maniac, there are 3 proven crimes that were committed in Rochester in the early 70s. The victims of the "Alphabet Killer" were little girls (pictured), whose initials coincided with the first letter of the city (Carmen Colon in Churchville, Wanda Walkowicz in Webster, Michelle Maenza in Macedon), thanks to which the maniac got such a nickname. For a long time, Denis Termini was considered the main suspect, but in 2007 he was acquitted, and the real criminal, as you understand, remained at large.
5. Long Island serial killer
The killer who is credited with the death of four (perhaps there were more) prostitutes. He not only dealt with night butterflies, but also dismembered them, and then “strewn” the territory of Ocean Parkway and Jones Beach Park with the remains of the bodies of girls. Only after a while the police were able to find the remains of his victims, but, sadly, they failed to catch the criminal himself.
6 Cleveland Butcher
This criminal was also known as the Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run, who committed bloody crimes in the 1930s. He is credited with 12 officially registered murders, but the investigation showed that in fact there were many more.
7. Real night hunter
That was the name of the American "serial" from California, who killed ten and sexually abused fifty people. His actions did not fall under any classification, because the Night Stalker is considered one of the strangest maniacs in US history.
8. Feb 9 Killer
This serial killer took the lives of the people of Salt Lake County. But most importantly, he did it only on February 9, 2006, and then in 2008, because of which, in fact, he received such a mysterious nickname. The investigation into the case of the February maniac in 2011 reached a dead end, and he himself still appears in police files as John Doe. This is his conventional name.
9. Zodiac
This brutal and mysterious serial killer maniac operated in the United States and San Francisco in the late 60s. All of his messages addressed to the police contained encrypted cryptograms, thanks to which the Zodiac got his nickname. However, during the entire investigation, the cryptographers were able to read only one of his “bloody” letters.
10. Jack the Ripper
The most famous "serial" in history, whose identity could not be established. He received the pseudonym Jack the Ripper for the nature of the crimes: in 1888, a maniac killed prostitutes in London. The exact number of Jack's victims has not been established to this day. As well as who the Ripper really was.
