No field explores the arts and sciences as thoroughly as photomicrography, and the Nikon Small World competition has long established itself as the premier international competition for microscopic photography. It has been held since 1974 and every year it invites leading scientists and photography professionals to its panel of judges. These photographs give us the opportunity to admire the incredible diversity of our planet. This year's competition promises to be especially interesting as Nikon Small World celebrates its 40th anniversary. The winners will be announced on October 30th, but in the meantime, let's enjoy some of the entries already submitted to the jury.
