The vices of Dublin at night: a drunken Halloween in church and homeless people in ties

Russian people associate Ireland with clover, whiskey, beer, bagpipes and unbridled fun — and, apparently, not in vain. Alexander Belenky, aka macos, tells about his impressions of Dublin at night:

"Dinner at church, brothels, crowds of drunks, glamorous homeless people and "Guinness" by the river. After dark, the Irish capital drops the masks of decency and shows a different face. That's what awaits those who dare to leave the hotel. I suggest taking a walk for the brave."

Then, after a couple of mugs of Guinness (besides the usual, there are several other types of this famous stout), you will want something unusual. For example, to have dinner at the temple!

In Russia, only one thought about such sedition is practically a crime. In Dublin — please book a table, there will be a lot of people.

This is a real Catholic church, rebuilt into a restaurant. There is even a working organ.

And this despite the fact that Ireland is a very religious and devout country. They are just sure that God does not care whether people come here to pray or to eat. The main thing is what's in their head.

On the ground floor, instead of the confessional, there is now a bar with a dozen beers. And how many intimate stories the bartender hears every night — not every priest has so many.

The food here is not bad. I'll show you my dinner: filet mignon with mashed potatoes with bacon and fresh mussels with garlic croutons.

It was Halloween Eve, so one of the waiters decided to prank the visitors and climbed out of the well in a black sheet. Some were scared, others laughed. Yes, we're still in church.

After a hearty dinner, you need to continue your journey through the bars. Local guys even have their own Olympics: who will visit more bars in an evening and still be able to stand on their feet. In each you need to drink at least a pint of Guinness.

Everyone goes here: students, prostitutes and bespectacled people. A good bar brings society together more abruptly than the search for an external enemy.

How does visiting several bars in one evening end? You will no longer fit on a wide sidewalk, as your company will go in an embrace, supporting several drunken friends at once. At the same time, it is necessary to shout songs as loudly as possible. These sang I love you baby.

On the second floor of the pub in the evenings there is a folk concert without applications: everyone brings his guitar, violin or ukulele and plays familiar songs according to the notes. This time I brought friends there, but, alas, there was no music.

I always feel sorry for the young girls who work as waitresses in nightclubs or bartenders in pubs. But they don't go there from a full life. And it's good that waitresses: it could have been worse.

But the pub is not only entertainment for young people. Irish old ladies are also not averse to overturning a mug.

Mountains of empty beer kegs are a common occurrence on Dublin sidewalks. They drink so much foam drink here in the evening that not a single warehouse or backyard can fit.

They chose the space between the shop windows, hiding there from the wind and the feet of passers-by. That's how they spend their nights, leaving at dawn.

The paradox of the Irish homeless: many of them look too decent to even suspect them of vagrancy!

Some even wear suits and a tie! Maybe I was viciously deceived, but they say that now rent in the city costs so much money that people cannot afford normal housing and sleep in social shelters, while working in decent positions in offices. They have nowhere to go after work, because they spend as much time on the street as possible.

And since a flophouse is a very specific place, some people prefer to sleep in the fresh air, while it's not completely cold yet.

The girls went out to smoke and "refresh the contents of the glasses." A cunning life hack to sit in the bar longer, but not buy an additive.
