Many still remember the endless queues at the entrance in the early days and even months of McDonald's operation and the long-awaited "taste of freedom" felt by the most patient inside. Let's remember how the history of perhaps the most famous fast food chain in the world began.
McDonald's began when Maurice and Richard ("Mac" and "Dick") McDonald relocated their father's restaurant from Monrovia to San Bernardino, California in 1940. At the new location, the restaurant was renamed "Famous McDonald's BBQ". The restaurant's menu included about 40 different barbecue dishes. After a while, the brothers noticed that they receive almost all their income from the sale of hamburgers. After that, they simplified the menu as much as possible, focusing on selling what later formed the basis of fast food: burgers, fried potatoes, milkshakes, sugary drinks and apple pie.
