The old cement factory was turned into a real villa

When Ricardo Bofill stumbled upon an abandoned cement factory in 1973, he immediately saw a sea of opportunities. Then La fábrica ("factory" in Spanish) was born, and almost 45 years later the building was completely transformed and turned into a unique house.

An old cement factory is located near Barcelona. It was a production during the Second World War, and the architect and his team had to invest a lot of effort in repairing the dilapidated building. For Bofill, this place has become a project of a lifetime, which continues to change and develop together with the architect and his creative ideas.

The house of the Spanish architect Ricardo Bofilla in the suburbs of Barcelona.

This is a former cement factory from the Second World War, which Bofill bought in 1973 and began to repair.

For several years, it was partially dismantled, after which the architect's team began to transform the interior into a modern living space.

Outside, the building is overgrown with trees and is now beautifully framed by greenery.

The building has been completely transformed into an incredible and absolutely unique residential building.

"The cement factory is mainly a workplace," Bofill writes on his website.

Each room is decorated in accordance with its special purpose, and there is not one that would be similar to the other.

"I get the impression that I live in a closed universe that protects me from external and everyday life," writes Bofill.

"Life here flows continuously, and the difference between work and leisure is very small."

There are various corners for recreation scattered throughout the house and in the yard.

The workspace here is also a fundamental component, since the Bofill team uses part of the house as a studio.

Outside, the house is almost completely covered with vegetation and is surrounded by eucalyptus trees, palm trees and olive trees.

This gives the building the mystery of romantic ruins and makes it unique.

"The kitchen-dining room on the ground floor is a place for meetings with the family."

Despite the incredible transformation, the factory is still an unfinished project.

Bofill compares the constant evolution of the project with his own lifestyle and creative vision.

There will always be room for improvements at the factory, which is an integral part of the charm of this place.

With the presence of creative thinking, any space can be turned into something new and beautiful.
