The ship was built in Hamburg in 1891 and sailed on the route Hamburg - West Africa. However, the fast currents and thick fogs characteristic of the coast of the Namib Desert caused a disaster.

2. Attempts to save the ship, which ran aground, were unsuccessful, the steel cable for towing Edward Bohlen by the ship that came to the rescue burst. Passengers without injuries survived the accident and were evacuated.
