Let's hope that someday the day will come when more people will have the opportunity to see our house from space on their own. In the meantime, enjoy these ten breathtaking views of the Earth from NASA. These are the most famous photos of the Earth from space.
This amazing picture called “blue marble” is the most detailed color image of the entire Earth taken before 2002. Using a collection of satellite photos, scientists and visualizers stitched together the results of long months of observations of the earth's surface, oceans, sea ice and clouds into a true-color mosaic without any seams. This is one of the most common and famous photos of the Earth.
View of the Earth from the surface of the Moon. The next famous photo is an incredible image of the Earth captured by Apollo 11 during a mission in July 1969. The first lunar mission started on July 16, 1969 and successfully ended with a return to Earth on July 24, 1969. The crew with 3 people on board consisted of Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin Jr.
The earth separator. These two images were taken during the Apollo 11 mission. On them we see the Earth divider — a rounded line with a diameter that is approximately equal to the diameter of the Earth. The separator passes through any point on the Earth's surface twice a day, once at sunrise and once at sunset, except in the polar regions, where this happens much less often.
The Earth and the Moon. View from Mars. This is the first image of the Earth ever taken from another planet that actually shows our house as a planetary disk.
The earth is on the dark side of the moon. Apollo 16 took this picture with the Hasselblad camera. Most of the landscape seen here is never visible from Earth as it is the 'dark side' of the moon. Apollo 16 launched on April 16, 1972 and landed on the moon on April 20. The mission was commanded by John Young.
Apollo 17. An astronaut sets a flag on the lunar surface with Earth in the background. One of the most famous photographs, which caused a lot of controversy regarding its origin. There is a widespread version that there was no landing on the Moon, and the photo was taken in a production studio on Earth.
The earth is on the lunar horizon. This photo of the Earth on the lunar horizon was taken during the Apollo 15 mission, which launched on July 26, 1971.
The blue planet. Earth from outer space. The most striking feature of our planet is water. In both liquid and frozen form, it covers 75% of the Earth's surface.
