The ensemble of the palace also includes the Palatine Chapel, richly decorated with luxurious Byzantine mosaics - one of the best among those preserved in Sicily and the most beautiful in the world.
2. San Giovanni degli Eremiti
The church of St. John the Hermit, distinguished by its red domes, is a real symbol of the city of Palermo. The history of the church dates back to the 6th century, when a Gregorian monastery was located on this site. The building of the church is a bright representative of the Arab-Norman style. On his example, one can trace the architectural mixture of several cultures that influenced the appearance of Palermo.
3. Palermo Cattedrale
The Cathedral of Palermo has been rebuilt several times over the centuries, therefore it is also a mixture of different architectural styles and eras that reflect the history of the city. 6. Catacombe dei Cappuccini
Of all the places in Italy where you can see mummies and skeletons, the catacombs of Palermo are perhaps the most terrible. From the 16th century until 1920, bodies dressed in the best clothes were sent here for burial. Hundreds of mummies of varying degrees of decomposition will appear before your eyes. Entertainment is very specific, not for the faint of heart.
7. Orto Botanico di Palermo
The Botanical Garden of Palermo has a rich collection of plants representing the diverse flora of almost all continents, in particular tropical and subtropical zones. Founded in 1779, today it is one of the most interesting and significant botanical gardens in Europe.
