The purpose of the action, if you believe its inspirers, was to establish the truth that the American government and the military have been hiding from humanity for decades.
The military base codenamed Area 51, located in the US state of Nevada, is well known around the world. This top-secret facility, created as a testing ground for new combat aircraft, has long been a legend. "Zone 51" is played out in hundreds of films, books and computer games as a place where the US government hides evidence of contacts with extraterrestrial civilizations or even the "green men" themselves.
The event, whose full name sounds like Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us, began to be promoted online by 20-year-old student Matty Roberts. Now, frightened by the scale of the movement he raised, the young man claims that it was nothing more than a joke, but the military and police do not think so at all.
Millions of people from all over the world wanted to go to the mass assault of the military base, scheduled for September 20. It is quite obvious that not all participants of the online flash mob will come to Nevada. But the FBI has already calculated that even if only 1% of the registered participants appear at the Area 51 fence, the troops and police will be powerless to prevent the seizure of a military facility.
When in July the number of participants in the future assault reached half a million, no one knew what to do. Facebook in desperation blocked the official page of the event, but soon reopened it, as it formally did not violate any rules of the social network.
When the number of participants in the event exceeded one million, Matty Roberts said that it was nothing more than the Alien Stock youth festival, which is planned to be held in the Nevada desert, near a military base. The tiny town of Rachel, which is home to several dozen people, was even named as the venue for it.
As it turned out, it will not be possible to carry out anything in this locality for several serious reasons. First of all, because the residents of the town themselves categorically do not want to have anything to do with such a mass event. And secondly, Rachel does not have the infrastructure to receive even a few hundred guests, let alone 10-15 thousand, as Roberts stated. In this God-forsaken place, there is not even an Internet, so the question disappeared by itself.
The festival even has a sponsor — the beer brand Bud
In general, it was announced on the network that "there will be no kina" and everyone can relax and sit at home on September 20. But the US authorities do not really believe that September will pass without provocations in the area of the base and, just in case, pulled the police and troops there. I must say that this makes sense, since some people did not believe in the cancellation of the assault and did not even wait for the agreed date.
Hungry for sensations and likes, bloggers have been hanging around the military facility by the dozens, narrowing circles and posting new videos online. The first swallows detained by the Nevada State police were the Dutch YouTube blogger Thies Granziera and his friend with the creepy name Govert Charles Wilhelmus Jacob Sweep. The guys, along with the equipment for filming, were tied up 16 km from the "Zone 51".
To the questions of the police about how they ended up in such a wilderness, the foreigners could not answer anything intelligibly and referred only to the upcoming Alien Stock festival. According to the latest information from the scene, the bloggers were at the Nye County police station and they were going to be released on bail. The guys didn't have time to break something and they could be forgiven, but they are too suspicious with all these laptops, cameras and drones in their suitcases.
I must say that the police are not worried in vain. There have already been precedents when young people organized serious actions on the Internet, accompanied by mass riots.
