Memory is an integral part of our personality, and to lose it means to lose a part of yourself. 43-year-old Claire Muffett-Reece is a journalist from Essex. She lives with her 44-year-old husband Scott and two sons. The British woman suffered encephalitis, a deadly inflammation of the brain, which caused her to lose memories over the past 20 years. Claire didn't remember the deaths of loved ones, or the birthdays of children. Find out what is happening to a woman now from our material.

Claire met Scott in 1995. Since then, the couple has not parted. They got married in 2008, and soon they had sons Jack and Max. The journalist led an active life, raising her sons and building a successful career as a magazine editor.

Everything changed in 2021. One day Claire caught a cold and fell asleep early. The next morning, her husband tried to wake her up, but she didn't move. Claire was taken to the hospital, where she began to convulse. After that, the unconscious woman was connected to an artificial respiration machine.

After the examination, it turned out that the woman's brain was swollen due to the development of encephalitis, which she contracted. The doctors told Claire's family to prepare for the worst. Fortunately, the convulsions were removed with the help of medications, and after 16 days the patient was disconnected from the ventilator.

When Claire woke up, she realized that she didn't remember anything from the last 20 years. She recognized her children, but she didn't remember their birthdays, forgot how she sent them to school, couldn't remember what the children liked and what they didn't. Her husband showed her photos of home, vacation and wedding pictures, but the Briton did not remember anything. Neurologists explained that memory loss is a common side effect of encephalitis, and there is no guarantee that memories will return.

Fortunately, Claire managed to remember everything with the help of her husband. After five weeks in the hospital, she was discharged home. But the road to recovery was just beginning. A woman could only take a few steps, and her husband helped her to get dressed and take a shower. She felt helpless. After the illness, the journalist became more hot-tempered, but her family and friends tolerated and did not stop supporting her.

Claire didn't remember anything about the coronavirus pandemic, terrorist attacks and other high-profile world events. She looked through magazines and was surprised to read her own interviews with the stars.

Now the Briton feels much better, but the recovery process continues. She still suffers from pain and itching, often waking up at night. Claire has stopped driving a car and can't cook on her own when she has another attack. Her husband and children help and support her in everything, comforting her when the pain becomes unbearable.

The journalist is gradually resuming her career. Fortunately, she has not forgotten how to write and interview. Claire does not lose hope that her memory will return to her, and tries to get as many vivid impressions as possible in order to create new memories.

Meanwhile, the Australian has an exceptional memory and does not forget anything. She remembers every detail of her life, starting from the age of two.
