Its founder Ingvar Kamprad created the company in 1943, when he was only 17 years old. The first catalog of the brand was published in 1951, 3 years after furniture appeared in the IKEA assortment (before that, the company sold stationery by mail), and 7 years before the opening of the first store in the Swedish city of Elmhult.
