He boldly goes beyond the canons of art, tramples on the rules of thirds and the golden ratio. At the same time, where others then get chaos, with Coinha you can always see a real masterpiece. (Caution! Nude)
Christian Coigny was born in 1946 in the beautiful Swiss city of Lausanne. Ancient Gothic and Romanesque architecture, as well as fantastic nature, prompted Christian to create as a child. He selflessly drew everything he saw around him until he received his first camera as a gift in high school.
Photography became a real revelation for the young man, and he plunged into its wisdom. At the age of 20, Coigny entered a photography school in the city of Vevey, but did not stay there for long. To a talented young man, the classic postulates of photography seem boring and insignificant from the point of view of creativity. He drops out of school without regret and goes overseas for 5 years to San Francisco.
In the US, Christian Coigny works in various advertising studios and develops his own unique style. The young photographer not only shoots, but is also interested in painting. He discovers the classics of the modern "American West" George O'Keeffe, Edward Hooper and Richard Diebenkorn. From these masters he learns to work with light and shadows.
Having gained invaluable experience in America, Coigny returns to his native Switzerland. But he is no longer at home. For the next 8 years, the photographer travels around Europe and repeatedly visits the United States. It was the time of the passion for portrait photography. Coigny makes wonderful portraits of 130 famous people. Among them are models and actors, politicians and businessmen, athletes and artists.
Does not leave the photographer and advertising shooting. His works adorn the covers of well-known glossy publications, appear on television, beckon from the windows of fashionable stores. There are among the versatile interests of Koinya and the nude genre. The master likes to place his models in an entourage that creates some kind of geometric constructions. The contrast between the naked female body and the strict line of the concrete wall makes the shot special.
