The everyday life of a janitor after the murders

A Reddit user with the nickname Lotsofshi works as a "specialist in the disposal of biologically hazardous waste and cleaning at crime scenes," and this is literally dirty work. The man is tired of monotonous work in the office and now cleans and disinfects premises after murders and suicides, apartments in which decomposing bodies of people who died of natural death were found, enterprises after industrial accidents, and so on.

Lotsofshi answered a few questions about everyday work at the dirtiest job.

The everyday life of a janitor after the murders What was the scariest place where you had to work?

To be honest, the dirtiest rooms remain not after murders, but after death by natural causes. If the guys and I are called to the place, it means that the deceased has been lying in the room for at least a couple of days, and the sight will be very unpleasant.

The most creepy and disgusting place was a small trailer belonging to a lonely man, whose corpse was found only two months later. It was a real nightmare. It was dark, there was no water, no electricity, and the whole space was filled with flies and maggots. It decomposed so much that we literally had to wash the rotting muck from the walls.

The everyday life of a janitor after the murders There was another case when we went to the scene of a triple murder. A woman who was caring for two disabled children was killed by robbers. They just put them all facing the wall and shot them in the head. You know, when you have to wipe the blood from children's toys and cribs, it's creepy.

The everyday life of a janitor after the murders Do you clean the house?

My girlfriend has nothing against cleaning and looks after the house herself. When I have the time and energy, I help her whenever possible. At first, of course, she tried to cheat and use my work as an excuse to make me scrub the floors every night, but it didn't work. Now, if we quarrel about cleaning, I always advise her to kill someone, I'll be happy to clean up after her. I offer great discounts for family and friends!

The everyday life of a janitor after the murders How much do they pay?

Usually my rate is $25 per hour. The road to the scene of the accident is paid separately. For particularly neglected cases, we charge at an increased rate. In general, the income is not bad, but it is not necessary once for once. The more dirt people leave behind after death, the more I earn.

The everyday life of a janitor after the murders What was your first case like?

I was sent to clean up the house where the guy shot himself with a shotgun. What better way to get an idea of a new job than having to scrub someone's brains off the wall for half a day? By the way, I was unlucky then, the pieces of the skull were so deeply embedded in the plasterboard walls that I had to take them out one by one with wire cutters.

The everyday life of a janitor after the murders Are you joking at work?

But what else?! We laugh all the time while cleaning. Of course, when the customer is not around. It seems to me that this is something like a psychological defense mechanism. When you wipe blood and guts all day long, you need to dilute such work with a drop of humor and positivity.

The everyday life of a janitor after the murders Do you work only for the company or do you sometimes take orders on the side?

What are you, everything is strictly official. All orders come through the company, and we go to the place only after the police and experts finish there. However, sometimes, in particularly lean years, I think about whether I should put an ad somewhere on the Internet in the style of "I will remove anything. Qualitatively, professionally, without unnecessary questions" — and see what happens. Heh, it's a pity that I'm not a freelancer.
