At the age of 42, Galina Hutchins was the real embodiment of the American dream. A wonderful family, a well-paid job, communication with the stars of the first magnitude, the opportunity for growth and self-realization. Who would have thought that a girl from the village of Gorodets in the Zhytomyr region, where 750 people live, would reach such heights?

Galina's father was a military man and her childhood was spent "on the edge of the world", at the naval base of the Northern Fleet of the Navy. Anatoly Andrusevich, after retiring, moved his family to Kiev. In the capital of Ukraine, Galya entered the Agricultural Institute, from which she graduated with a red diploma in 2001.

But the acquired profession of an industrial economist did not attract the girl. Galina Andrusevich decided to look for happiness across the ocean. She learned English on her own, applied for a green card and went to the USA. She stayed there for a short time and returned to her homeland, to Kiev. After the trip, Galina knew exactly what she wanted from life. The girl entered the Faculty of International Journalism of the Institute of Journalism of the National University. Taras Shevchenko.

Galina wanted to become a journalist and began to pursue her dream while studying. A purposeful student of a Kiev university was hired by the BBC, where she was engaged in investigative journalism. Soon she defended her diploma, the topic of which was the US public media system.

But already in her last year, Galina realized that she was no longer attracted to journalism, but to cinema. She went back to the USA and enrolled in the American Film Institute. In parallel, the girl mastered the difficult profession of an operator and engaged in self-education. In America, a Ukrainian woman met her future husband, lawyer Matthew Hutchins. Soon the couple had a son, who was named Andros.

Family life did not make Galina cool down to work — she continued to study and work. Here 's what Hutchins ' university friend Oksana Stefanishina writes about this:

Galina has been to Ukraine infrequently — the last time she visited her homeland was in 2018. Together with her husband and son, Hutchins came to visit a friend in Odessa.

Despite the fact that Hutchins' life now seems like an American fairy tale, it was not easy for her to make her way in the profession. Galina started working as an assistant director, and in her spare time she worked as a photographer at fashion shows. The first success of the young Hutchins cameraman was the diploma film "Hidden", shot together with director Farzad Ostorvazade.

The film was shown at a film festival in Poland and Galina was talked about as a rising star of American cinema. Among the most successful works of the operator, it is worth mentioning the horror film by Polianna McIntosh "Darlene", the police drama Blindfire and the fantasy action film directed by Adam Ijipt Mortimer "Sworn Enemy".

Colleagues remember Hutchins as a professional with a capital letter. They say that the woman never thought about the risk and found herself with a camera in the most dangerous places. It was important for Galina to do the work as efficiently as possible, regardless of the circumstances. Friends even jokingly called her an "adrenaline junkie."

But on the day of her death, Galina did not test her fate — she just stood behind the camera. It happened in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on the set of the movie "Rust". Actor Alec Baldwin was rehearsing snatching a revolver from a holster and the weapon accidentally fired. The gun should not have been loaded at that moment at all, especially with a live cartridge.

The bullet hit Hutchins in the chest, went through and wounded the shoulder of the film's director Joel Souza. The victims were rushed to the hospital, but Galina's wound turned out to be fatal and it was not possible to save her. Now the police are investigating this tragic case and are looking for those responsible for the death of the operator.
