This place has always been not simple, as if a special atmosphere reigned in it, which attracted all the New York bohemia. What does this place look like now and what was so special about the legendary Chelsea Hotel? More on this later…

1. At one time, such famous figures from the world of cinema, music, writing, and art as John Sloan, Edgar Lee Masters, Tom Wolfe, Dylan Thomas, Arthur Miller, Allen Ginsberg, Bob Dylan, Mark Twain, O. Henry, Andy Warhol, Sam Shepard, Sid Vicious & Dee Dee Ramone, Stanley Kubrick, Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, Iggy Pop, Cher, Bob Dylan, Alice Cooper, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Marilyn Monroe, Pink Floyd, Madonna and that far from the entire list of bohemia, which so strongly sought to stay in this hotel.

2. Here Bob Dylan wrote Blonde on Blonde, Andy Warhol directed Chelsea Girls, and Sid Vicious killed Nancy Spungen. And no one has been able to give an intelligible answer to the question: how and why this hotel has long been the largest gathering of bohemia in the world?

3. The 12-story Art Nouveau red brick building was built in 1885. Its features are balconies with wrought-iron gratings, and a jet-black iron front staircase.

4. In total, the hotel had 250 guest rooms. The hotel's relative proximity to the docks was also the reason that in 1912, all the surviving passengers of the Titanic were settled in the Hotel Chelsea.

5. The 60s just became the heyday of that special atmosphere of bohemianism and carelessness, which became the hallmark of the hotel. This mood of the hotel was set not so much by the efforts of designers, but by the guests themselves from the creative intelligentsia, who strove to settle here.

6. Hotel Chelsea became not only an object of adoration for the bohemian community but also the object of numerous descriptions in literary works, a location for filming feature films.

7. In 2011, Hotel Chelsea was closed for renovation, during which the original interiors were recreated, as well as the internal infrastructure was modernized - elevators, sewerage, lighting, air conditioning, and much more.

8. Paintings and other creations of artists whose biographies are somehow connected with the hotel were used in the design. For example, the artist Elphaus Cowell lived permanently in Chelsea and died in his hotel room at the age of 112.

9. Despite the fact that many people want to make a hotel room their permanent residence in New York, the administration has limited the time of stay at the hotel to 24 days.

10. At the moment, they plan to make a boutique hotel out of the New York bohemian shelter, but so far its residents are not obscure artists and creative people who have preserved about 70 rooms in the hotel, they are trying with all their might to withstand the onslaught of new tenants.
