The Nikon Small World competition is held for everyone who is interested in microphotography and is a leading showcase for photographers from a wide variety of scientific disciplines.
This year, the jury viewed thousands of interesting photos of the invisible world from more than 100 countries. The winner was the image of a turtle embryo using fluorescence and stereomicroscopy. The authors of this photo were American scientists Teresa Zgoda and Teresa Kugler.
