Stop! Cut! How Moscow turned into a huge film set

From September 9 to 18, Moscow hosts a festival for moviegoers — the Moscow Cinema Festival. At 33 venues of the festival, a retrospective of 29 films shot in Moscow or about Moscow is a familiar and beloved Soviet classic from childhood: "Ivan Vasilyevich changes his profession", "Diamond Hand", "The meeting place cannot be changed" — and modern tapes: "Night Watch", "Dudes" and others. Free master classes dedicated to a particular profession of cinema are held at almost all venues. For example, makeup lessons are held on the Kuznetsky Bridge on weekends, and on Novy Arbat throughout the week they talk about the secrets of creating special effects in movies and even teach how to make their own short films.

Specially for the festival, more than 20 routes of unique excursions have been developed under the general name "KinoMoskva". There you can learn about interesting cases on film sites and where films were shot, as well as walk along the routes of your favorite movie characters.

For those who do not like long walks with a guide, there are signs with little-known facts and stories about films right on the sites.

In Lavrushinsky Lane, you can find a whole art maze, where more than 200 historical posters, over 350 photos from film sets and about 500 stories of Russian cinema from the 1920s to the 2010s are presented.

The festival has its own "kinomenu" — dishes from your favorite movies that you can not only try, but also cook yourself! Culinary schools are open in Novopushkinsky Square, on Revolution Square and on the Old Arbat.

And in the shopping chalets at the festival sites, you can find the most unusual gifts — rare books about movies, postcards, antique jewelry, clothes, accessories. The assortment of the site is selected in strict accordance with the era of the film to which it is dedicated.

Theatrical performances are held every day. For example, at the Diamond Hand site, you can meet aborigines from the famous "Island of Bad Luck", and in the evening listen to a concert with popular Soviet melodies, songs from movies and jazz improvisations.

In Stoleshnikov Lane every day you can watch films of the silent film era accompanied by a taper game.
