It doesn’t matter how effective the techniques shown in them are, the main thing is the illustrations. Beauties who knock down brutal thugs with one blow attract not only the target audience, but also men. Especially if the model is rock star, model and actress Stevie Nicks. This is exactly what the author of the brochure “Hands Off!: A Unique New System of Self-Defense Against Assault for Modern Women”, published in 1983, was counting on.
The self-defense manual was written by Australian martial artist Bob Jones. This guy's competence is beyond doubt, as he was a bodyguard for world-famous stars, including Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, and Joe Cocker.
To attract attention to his work, Jones invited the young rock star from the USA, Stevie Nicks, the lead singer of Fleetwood Mac, to participate in the creation of the manual. A beauty, blonde, author of music and lyrics, model, and future actress, Nicks happily agreed. So the book included 9 beautiful photographs in which the girl demonstrates techniques on the author himself. Later, Bob Jones recalled:
Unfortunately, we can only appreciate a small part of this wonderful photo shoot, which was included in Jones's manual. Also available are several shots of working moments, in which Bob shows Stevie "how it should be done." The uniqueness of these pictures is also in the fact that the girl is not in sports shoes and not barefoot, but in high-heeled shoes and fashionable platform boots.
Needless to say, the small booklet became a great rarity. The entire print run was snapped up in a matter of days by fans of Stevie Nicks, who was at the peak of her popularity in the US at the time.
