During this trip, he took a series of pictures about how the Soviet people live in Odessa. The stunning atmosphere and vivid shots act like a time machine.

Ian Berry established himself as a photojournalist while working in South Africa for the Daily Mail and Drum magazine. He was the only one who captured the Sharpeville mass shooting in 1960, and his photographs were used in the trial to prove the innocence of the victims.
In 1962, Henri Cartier-Bresson invited Berry to work for the Magnum agency. In 1964, Berry returned to London and became the first contract photographer for the Observer magazine. Since then, he has traveled the world, filming the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, conflicts in Israel, Ireland, Vietnam and the Congo, famine in Ethiopia, apartheid in South Africa. The photographer has worked with such publications as National Geographic, Fortune, Stern, Geo, Esquire, Paris-Match and LIFE.
