One of the largest international photography competitions Sony World Photography Awards sums up the results of this year: the jury selected the finalists, among whom two photographers from Ukraine and two from Russia are applying for a prize of 25 thousand dollars in the professional category.

The jury notes that this year a record number of applications were submitted for the entire history of the competition — about 320 thousand. The plot of the photos touches on current events such as the refugee crisis and protests in different parts of the world, as well as traditional topics in the sections "Architecture" and "Wildlife".

The best works were determined in four categories: "Professional Photography", "Young Photographers", "Students" and "Open Category". Photographers representing thematic photo projects in the genre they are interested in compete among professionals, such as Sasha Maslov's photo project from Ukraine about World War II veterans and a series of portraits of women from African countries by Russian photojournalist Asha Miles. In the open category, participants submit one photo of any subject.
